SYS – The Association for Friends of Switzerland in Finland (Sveitsin Ystävät Suomessa)
SYS develops and maintains a friendly relationship between Finland and Switzerland.
History and General Information
SYS was founded in 1948. The objective of the association is to promote the knowledge of Swiss society, nature and history in Finland, as well as Swiss achievements in the cultural and financial fields. The association develops and maintains good relationship between Finland and Switzerland by organising presentations, informational and cultural events, field trips and social meetings.
Member Services
Members of SYS receive a members’ newsletter four times a year. Twice a year also “Finnland Magazin” – a magazine in German and in Finnish language – is sent to the members.
Members can participate in the activities such as presentations, movie nights, concerts, exhibitions, field trips and social meetings organised by the association and its local branches.
Grants
In 1963 SYS established a grant fund for Swiss citizens. The grant recipients get to know the Finnish culture and then contribute to the knowledge of Finland in Switzerland by writing articles and giving presentations.
Since 1970 the association has also offered grants to Swiss military officers.
Organisation
SYS is led by a steering board and an advisory committee, appointed by the annual general meeting. Local branches in different parts of Finland organise activities independently for the members of the association.
